How Important It Is To Introduce Arts & Crafts To Your Little Ones?

Some of my beloved educationist and Homeschooling parents are skilled crafters and many are trying their level best to cut a straight line or circle, no matter whether you are a pro in arts and crafts or a beginner, crafting with your kids is always beneficial in terms of  engagement.

Why is Art Important in Early Childhood Education?

Including art as an important part of your child’s daily routine can have an enormous impact on your child’s growth. Not only will it prepare your child for academic success in school, but it will foster early emotional development and offer your child opportunity to express themselves creatively.
Believe or not, through art, your child will:

1. Strengthen spatial reasoning and early math skills:

In correspondence of the initial line of the article when beginners are involved so much in cutting out a straight line  or circle from a paper, this minor engagement can lead a child towards better understanding and pictorial memorization of the object or shape. Spatial reasoning allows kids to mentally imagine three dimensional shapes, which in turn prepares students for complex math and science concepts.
When kids engage in an art project, even from an early age, they explore size and shapes. Kids begin evaluating and comparing objects, strengthening early math skills (You can also take help from our provided Free Preschool Resources). More importantly, drawing, painting, and other art activities help kids to develop spatial reasoning skills.

2. Language Development:

When a child pour down his/her heart his/her soul in to a project or art work the second thing that he or she will be doing is describing the whole process, your child probably will tell you all about their project, how they made it, and the process they took to complete their crafty creation.
This is exactly how artwork strengthens early language skills. As kids talk about their work and describe the process, they build language skills. Keep the conversation going by asking questions about their work, and introduce vocabulary words that might apply.

3. Altering thought process of a child:

Through arts and craft, children learn to value and appreciate artifacts and images across cultures and times. Experience in design, art, and crafts enable them to reflect critically on their own work and those by others. They learn to act and think like designers and artists, working intelligently and creatively. They also learn about the preservation of heritage through art. A lot of the information we have now about people that lived millions of years ago came solely from art.

4.Enhances dexterity:

Arts and crafts activities can enhance the children’s dexterity and agility. With the enhancement of fine motor skills and much practice, a child’s manual dexterity, artistic skills, and speed will also increase.

5. Improvement of hand-eye coordination:

Engaging in activities related to arts and crafts from a very young age leads to a tremendous improvement in hand-eye coordination. This will help a child during later primary school years when she or he is spacing out words or forming letters.

6. Color Recognition:

Ability to identify colors is considered a milestone in their cognitive development. Being able to distinguish colors helps build the cognitive pathways between visual clues and words.

Activity Proposed by The Loving Montessori Directress:

This fun and engaging activity will not only work on the development aspects but also will be an engaging chance to spread awareness regarding COVID-19. Help your child go through these difficult times in an entertaining way.

Latest Researches:

A recent study by Dr. Richard Rende revealed that creative interaction between parents and young children engaging in activities like arts and crafts not only provides immediate and lasting cognitive benefits but also creates a unique bonding experience, which creates lifelong memories. Taking time to be creative with your children is a topic that I am incredibly passionate about. I know firsthand the benefits that children reap when they are exposed to arts and crafts activities, and in an age where arts are in a decline in the school systems, it is even more important than ever for parents to take the initiative to introduce art activities to their children.

Other key findings of Dr. Rende’s study showed that:
• Arts and crafts engage multiple brain areas simultaneously and
improve bilateral coordination between the left and right sides of
the brain, leading to immediate and future cognitive development.

• Activities like arts and crafts accelerate the development of muscles
in the hands and fingers, improving fine motor skills that are
essential for school success in the earliest formal years.

• Face-to-face interaction in the early years is critical for optimal
social development.

• Arts and crafts promote rich social interactions that help develop
language skills and social cognitive abilities like understanding
emotions.

• Creative activities are a great way to bond with children and create
lasting memories.

Think Tank:

Conclusively, It’s obvious that art is a critically important aspect of a child’s development. While at first glance artwork seems to be purely an activity based on entertainment value, it’s clear that artwork is key to developing a well-rounded child.  When your child needs a break, find a fun craft to create, or color a picture; your child will still be learning, and more importantly— they’ll love it!
